Situation

Konorau (Koneraw) is spoken in a single village on the south coast of Kolopom island (Voorhoeve 1975: 375,) surrounded on all sides by speakers of Kimaghama of the Kolopom family. Its nearest relative is the better-attested Mombum on Komolom island in the Muli Strait to the east.

Situation

The native term Mombum /moˈmbum/ refers to both the speakers' tribe and the village in which they live; the term Komolom is likewise used for both as well as for the island upon which the village is situate…

Situation

The Muli Strait family consists of two closely related languages, Mombum, also known as Komolom (Komelomsch,) and Konorau (Koneraw, Konerawsch,) spoken respectively on Komolom Island at the south end of the Muli Strait (Marianne Strait) and on the south coast of the larger Kolopom island immediately the west. Loans from Muli Strait in Sawuy, Yakhai and Warkay suggest that the family originated in the Casuarina Coast region, and was pushe…
